EPR is a unique comfort feature of premium flow generators in ResMed’s S8 series.
From initial acceptance to long-term compliance
Proven to enhance comfort during CPAP therapy1, EPR decreases the patient’s CPAP pressure during exhalation on a breath-by-breath basis. This ensures therapy is more acceptable during the initial CPAP trial phase, during ramp only and throughout the night.
Breathe easy with Easy-Breathe Technology
The introduction of ResMed’s Easy-Breathe Technology—which includes a unique, low-inertia, dual-stage motor built into the device—not only improves patient-device synchrony, but now means EPR enables smoother, more natural breathing during treatment.
Why prescribe EPR?
Not all CPAP devices with expiratory relief are the same, nor is the way this feature is implemented. ResMed’s EPR is supported by clinical studies, proving it just as clinically effective as traditional fixed CPAP, but significantly more comfortable.
Predictable: EPR provides three comfort settings to choose from, each corresponding to a set pressure reduction.
- Setting 1: mild reduction (1 cm H2O)
- Setting 2: medium reduction (2 cm H 2O)
- Setting 3: maximum reduction (3 cm H2O)
Customisable: The EPR feature is not merely on or off; it can be selected during ‘ramp only’, ‘ramp and full-time’ or ‘off’, set by the sleep professional to suit each individual patient. Patients may also be given access to this functionality.
Inspiratory-expiratory cycle synchronisation:
Pressure relief is triggered by patient expiration and ends at the start of inspiration; EPR does not rebound after a set period, allowing for variations in individual breathing patterns.
Greater insights into patient therapy: Connecting S8 ResLink to the latest S8 device range captures high-resolution flow data (25Hz), showing patients’ breathing patterns on a breath-by-breath basis ... so you can literally see EPR at work.
EPR preferred over traditional CPAP by 79% of patients
