S8 AutoSet II is the premium auto-adjusting device in ResMed's S8 Series II, featuring the following benefits:
- New whisper quiet operation is 75% quieter than before
- New Easy-Breathe technology - ResMed's revolutionary new therapy system
- New and improved EPR with Easy-Breathe technology for enhanced patient breathing comfort
- Usage-based compliance download for accurate patient monitoring
- Data card - a standard featured included for easy two-way data transfer
Setting a new industry standard in quiet therapy and comfort, ResMed's new sophisticated motor design delivers superior performance at a lower effort while cutting device noise significantly. By reducing noise, Easy-Breathe technology enables patients and their bed partners to sleep peacefully through the night.
Easy-Breathe technology combines new software, a quiter motor, and improved EPR for maximum comfort and a quiet night's sleep. With Easy-Breathe technology, EPR is integrated with AutoSet technology for pressure relief that continually adjust to patients' pressure needs, breath by breath.
Pressure relief for more natural breathing
Featuring ResMed's improved EPR with Easy-Breathe technology, the S8 AutoSet II offers pressure relief delivered in a smooth waveform that mimics patient breathing. With a choice of three different EPR comfort levels, the S8 AutoSet II with Easy-Breathe allows customized comfort for breathing that feels natural.
Why choose AutoSet with Easy-Breathe technology?
ResMed's AutoSet technology is clinically proven to increase patient comfort and compliance by adjusting pressure to meet patient's pressure needs, breath by breath. In a study by Bliss et al, ResMed's AutoSet was found to respond more effectively to inspiratory flow limitation breath by breath than comparable APAP devices, for more comfortable, efficacious therapy.
AutoSet with Easy-Breathe technology
ResMed’s clinically validated and time-tested AutoSet™ algorithm remains the gold standard for APAP therapy, having treated millions of patients effectively and comfortably for over a decade worldwide.1-3 AutoSet technology is available in the S8 AutoSet II with the quiet comfort of Easy-Breathe technology. Quiet comfort of Easy-Breathe ResMed’s AutoSet with Easy-Breathe technology combines the clinically superior AutoSet algorithm with the whisper-quiet operation and smooth, natural waveform of new and improved EPR™ (expiratory pressure relief). With three levels of EPR to choose from, AutoSet II softens pressure upon exhalation while delivering the lowest pressure necessary, so breathing is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Why prescribe AutoSet with Easy-Breathe technology?
Patients’ pressure needs can vary based on sleep position, alcohol consumption, weight gain or loss, and numerous other lifestyle changes. AutoSet with Easy-Breathe technology continually adjusts to each patients’ pressure needs breath by breath to ensure they are always receiving the appropriate pressure. By continually adjusting pressure, ResMed’s AutoSet is clinically proven to increase patient comfort and compliance.1-3 EPR with Easy-Breathe technology is proven to be as clinically effective as standard CPAP, while lowering median leak values.
How does the AutoSet with Easy-Breathe technology work?
AutoSet monitors patients’ individual breathing patterns and continually adjusts to changes in a patient’s airway so that they always receive the lowest pressure necessary to keep their airway open throughout the night, improving comfort and overall compliance. Using a 5-breath moving average, the AutoSet algorithm continually monitors breathing, breath-by-breath, and responds immediately to any airway changes, such as flow limitation, snoring and apneas.
AutoSet treats and prevents apneic events
Because AutoSet responds to flow limitation and flow limitation often precedes snoring and apneas, AutoSet is able to preemptively treat apneic events and prevent more serious, subsequent events from occurring. The algorithm also monitors and compensates for unintentional leak. Event detection and response Some APAP algorithms detect events and apply a fixed pressure setting regardless of the extent of the event. ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm, however, assesses the severity of the event—whether it is limited flow, snoring or an apnea—determines the best pressure solution and applies it comfortably, without delay.
EPR is a unique comfort feature of premium flow generators in ResMed’s S8 series.
The introduction of ResMed’s Easy-Breathe Technology—which includes a unique, low-inertia, dual-stage motor built into the device—not only improves patient-device synchrony, but now means EPR enables smoother, more natural breathing during treatment.
Why prescribe EPR?
Not all CPAP devices with expiratory relief are the same, nor is the way this feature is implemented. ResMed’s EPR is supported by clinical studies, proving it just as clinically effective as traditional fixed CPAP, but significantly more comfortable.
Predictable: EPR provides three comfort settings to choose from, each corresponding to a set pressure reduction.
Setting 1: mild reduction (1 cm H2O)
Setting 2: medium reduction (2 cm H 2O)
Setting 3: maximum reduction (3 cm H2O)
Customisable: The EPR feature is not merely on or off; it can be selected during ‘ramp only’, ‘ramp and full-time’ or ‘off’, set by the sleep professional to suit each individual patient. Patients may also be given access to this functionality.
Inspiratory-expiratory cycle synchronisation:
Pressure relief is triggered by patient expiration and ends at the start of inspiration; EPR does not rebound after a set period, allowing for variations in individual breathing patterns.
Greater insights into patient therapy: Connecting S8 ResLink to the latest S8 device range captures high-resolution flow data (25Hz), showing patients’ breathing patterns on a breath-by-breath basis ... so you can literally see EPR at work.
